ABOUT

Zoé Fauvel

I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Tiohtiá:ke/Montréal. I graduated from a BFA in Photography from Concordia University, including a year abroad studying at Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar (Germany).

I believe in art as a form of experience, and experience as a form of knowledge. My process is guided by the deepening of an experiential intimacy with the object of my curiosity, which leads me to venture towards photography in relation to performance and installation. Being out of my comfort zone is where I thrive the most in the landscape of my practice.

Through intuitive experimentation and research, I work back and forth between the accumulation, appropriation and production of images as generative points of departure. After documenting the initial stages of my process steps, I like the inclusion of performative gestures acts in the creative objects as a means of anchoring my practice in the pursuit of an embodied experience.

My curiosity is guided by vulnerability as a potential for connection on an intimate and collective scale, with the self and in public space. Recently, I've been interested in visual experiences in relation to wonder, scale and in/accessibility. I have a soft spot for how light emerges in darkness and writing on a daily practice.

My works have been presented in festivals and exhibitions both in Canada and Germany, including during the festivities surrounding the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus.
