ABOUT
Zoé Fauvel
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Tiohtiá:ke/Montréal. I graduated from a BFA in Photography from Concordia University, including a year abroad studying at Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar (Germany).
I believe in art as a form of experience, and experience as a form of knowledge. My process is guided by the deepening of an experiential intimacy with the object of my curiosity, which leads me to venture towards photography in relation to performance and installation. Being out of my comfort zone is where I thrive the most in the landscape of my practice.
Working primarily from research and experimentation as an impulse, I go through several back and forth processes of accumulating, appropriating and producing images and gestures as a starting point to create and generate ideas. After documenting the initial stages of my process, I include performative gestures in the creative objects as a way to ground my practice in the pursuit of an embodied experience.
My curiosity is guided by intuition and emotions as political connections on an intimate and collective scale. Recently, I have been interested in data visualization in relation to the sublime and the in/accessible, as well as the potential of vulnerability in the public space.
My works have been presented in festivals and exhibitions both in Canada and Germany, including during the festivities surrounding the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus.
